Deputy Principal of Firhouse Educate Together Secondary School Announced

Educate Together is delighted to announce that Frank Milling has been appointed as Deputy Principal/Leasphríomhoide of Firhouse ETSS.
 
Originally from Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, Frank graduated from University College, Cork with a BA in Gaeilge and Geography in 2000, a Higher Diploma in Education in 2001 and from the University of Ulster with an M.Ed. (Leadership and Management) in 2012. 
 
For the past two years he has been a Subject Advisor (Gaeilge) to the Junior Cycle for Teachers (JCT), a Department of Education & Skills Support Service for schools. Previous to his secondment to the Department, he taught at Ardee Community School where he served as Irish subject co-ordinator. He founded and chaired a Timetable Restructuring Committee in his school to offer the most comprehensive subject options to students. 
 
While teaching he was also a mentor for newly qualified teachers as well as co-ordinator for the School Self Evaluation programme. He has worked as an Assistant Examiner for the State Examinations Commission and as a Local Facilitator for the Professional Development Service for Teachers.
 
An educator with comprehensive experience of CPD provision, organisational and instructional leadership, Frank has tutored at 3rd level, was a Member of the Governing Body of UCC and served as President of UCC Students’ Union. He is also an Associate Lecturer at the School of Education in the University of Ulster. He founded Ireland’s first and only think-tank on education – ChangED – in March 2016.
 
He completed the ASIST course which helps people identify those who may be at risk of suicide and has trained various rugby teams as well as organised school tours abroad. 
 
Frank is passionate about curriculum and assessment reform, phenomenon-based learning, the flipped classroom, restorative practice, learner empowerment, student-voice, capacity-building, and distributed leadership.  Tá grá aige don Ghaeilge agus tapaíonn sé gach deis í a labhairt ina shaol pearsanta agus proifisiúnta. His hobbies and interests include hiking, rugby, landscape photography and overseas development aid.

As Leasphríomhoide, I relish working with our Principal, Claire Matthews, in partnership with the students, parents and wider community to co-create a school culture based on the principles of restorative practice so as to ensure that every student develops to become their best selves."
