Parents and Educate Together Welcomes News of New Primary School for Ballincollig
- 7 Dec 2016
Educate Together is delighted to announce that it will proceed with an application to establish a new national school in Ballincollig, opening in September 2017.
The Department of Education and Skills has invited patrons to apply for the patronage of the school. These applications will address a number of criteria, such as parental demand for each school type, and must be submitted by 6th January 2017.
Speaking about the announcement, local parent and chair of the local Educate Together Start-up Group, Triona Quinn, said: “This is great news for parents in the area who have been seeking an Educate Together school. Parents will be able to choose the type of school they want for their children – and now, thanks to this announcement as early as September 2017.”
Niall Wall, Regional Development Officer for Ireland South, said: “Over the years, I have had numerous requests from parents who want an Educate Together school in the Ballincollig area. Some of these parents have had to travel long distances to ensure their children receive the type of education they want for them but for many others, the choice has not been open to them. I am confident that there will be sufficient demand for an Educate Together school in the area and have been supporting parents in Ballincollig to further the application.”
Educate Together currently has several national schools in Cork: Cork ETNS, Grattan Street, Midleton ETNS, Carrigaline ETNS and the latest that opened in Rochestown in 2013. Gaelscoil An Ghoirt Álainn in Mayfield in Cork is a member of Educate Together and the school operates under the patronage of Foras Pátrúnachta na Scoileanna Lán-Ghaeilge Teoranta. An Educate Together secondary school Cork ETSS, opened in the south of the city in 2016. Educate Together has plans for more schools such is the demand in the county.
