Ways To Help

Welcome to the Volunteer section of our website.

Our sector, and all our schools, have been created by voluntary community initiative and Ireland today would have no eqaulity-based schools without the enormous efforts of thousands of parents and their supporters. Volunteering with Educate Together provides people with the opportunity to be directly involved in changing the course of education in Ireland.

How can I get involved?

There are a number of ways to become an Educate Together volunteer:

  • volunteering to organize a fundraising event for Educate Together
  • volunteering in an individual school
  • volunteering as a Patron Nominee on a school board of management
  • volunteering to sit on a Principal Recruitment Panel
  • volunteering in the national office.

More information on each of these opportunities can be found below.

Volunteering to organize a fundraising event

To run Educate Together, we rely on the generosity of our supporters. Fundraising events raise much needed revenue to deliver our extensive range of programmes and to open new schools. If you are thinking of organizing an event like a quiz, raffle or participating in a sponsored walk or run, please get in touch with us! Email fundraising@educatetogether.ie

Volunteering in an individual school

If you would like to volunteer in a particular school, please contact the Principal or Chairperson of the Board of Management of that school.

Volunteering as a Patron Nominee on a Board of Management

Schools are managed by a voluntary Board of Management. As the patron of most Educate Together schools, Educate Together nominates representatives to each Board. School Boards of Management operates on a 4-year cycle. The current Boards are running from December 2015 to December 2019. However, with new schools opening and the retirement/resignation of sitting Patron Nominees, we are always interested in hearing from people interested in this role.

Any adult is eligible to be nominated as a potential Patron Nominee, from within or from outside the immediate Educate Together school community. Patron Nominees do not necessarily have any connection with the school community and it is important to recognise that new members bring fresh ideas, new thinking and new experiences.

To find out more about any of these opportunities, please contact us on 01 429 2500 or email emily.mackinlay@educatetogether.ie or download: Patron Nominee Volunteer Role Description and Patron Nominee Application form (Primary).

Principal Recruitment Panel Volunteers

Volunteers from this Panel will be involved in the short-listing and interview process for school principals. The main objective of Principal Recruitment is to select the best person to provide strong leadership in the management and development of a school. A principal’s job involves diverse roles and responsibilities, ranging from teaching and curricular leadership to building a strong partnership with students, teachers, parents and the wider community. Volunteering for the recruitment panel provides an opportunity for people to invest their skills in the growth of our network. In order to recruit and hire suitable Principals, we need to have a variety of skills and experience on our interview panels. More information here

Volunteering in the Educate Together national office

The Educate Together national office is based in Dublin 7 and sometimes has opportunities to volunteer in programmes such as communications or fundraising. Email info@educatetogether.ie if you are interested in volunteering in the national office.

Volunteers in the national office are treated as equal team members and are always working alongside a paid staff member. We believe that volunteers, in their diversity of age, experience, cultural background and community involvement, bring value to our work. Engaging volunteers adds value to what we do, and we greatly appreciate their contribution.

Volunteering with us can offer opportunities for genuine involvement, learning and development in the Education sector. We work to ensure that the volunteering experience is meaningful, enjoyable and fulfilling!
