On Wednesday 21st February, Rush & Lusk Educate Together National School welcomed students, staff, parents and the Board of Management into their state-of-the-art new school building. This marks a significant milestone for the school community after 21 years of operating in temporary accommodation.
In early 2003 a group of parents from the Rush / Lusk area met with the Educate Together organisation with a view to setting up an Educate Together school in the area. Their main initial tasks were to find suitable premises for the school and to apply to the Department of Education for recognition. Following a lengthy search and tireless work by the Rush and Lusk Educate Together Association, the Scout Den in Kenure Park became the first premises where the school could be established.
The school opened its doors on 1st September 2003 in Rush, starting with just 24 children and two dedicated teachers. In March 2004, they relocated to Hanna’s Avenue, where they continued to thrive in a peaceful, rural setting. By the end of August 2008, they moved once more to a temporary, purpose-built school provided by the Department of Education and Skills. Their new permanent school building, which opened in February 2024, now accommodates all classes, including two classrooms specifically designed for children with Additional Needs in Autism.
The journey from the initial idea and dream to a flourishing school community has been filled with challenges and changes. This progress is a testament to the commitment, support, and belief of everyone involved. They have been fortunate to grow with the help of enthusiastic and hard-working staff, PGTA, parents, and children. The vibrant school community of RaLET that is seen today stands as a tribute to their ongoing dynamism and support.
RaLET also acknowledge the many long hours of hard work and planning contributed by their previous Boards of Management, especially in the initial years. Their voluntary dedication has been immeasurable.
By September 2024, the school’s enrolment is expected to reach around 410 children. RaLET are excited about the future and look forward to continuing their journey.
