Rochestown Educate Together National School was recently validated as a Digital School of Distinction. This award acknowledges best practice in the use of Information Communications Technology (ICT) to deliver the best educational experience for pupils at primary level.
Rochestown ETNS is one of only 17 schools in Cork, and 115 schools nationally to have been validated for this award so far. Throughout the year the pupils learned about, and learned through, the use of the school’s digital technologies such as computers, iPads, interactive whiteboard, memory sticks and digital camera. The award was presented by Mr. Gerard O’Sullivan, Vice-Chairperson of the Management Committee of the Cork Education Support Centre.
Said Alan Sheehan, principal of Rochestown ETNS, “We firmly believe in the importance of digital technologies for our pupils, both as teaching and learning tools, and as forms of communication themselves. The validation of our new school in its first year as a Digital School of Distinction is a fitting culmination to the excellent work of our teachers, parents and pupils. We appreciate all of the parental support in ICT through policy development on the Board of Management to assisting their children use the digital camera at home for the ‘All About Me’ project. We look forward to our pupils’ continuing development in the use of ICT in the years ahead, and recording this progress on their memory sticks”.
