Following the Department of Education and Skills' announcement in May 2013 of new post-primary schools for eight areas around the country, Educate Together has assessed demand in these areas, and has lodged applications today for six new schools. These applications are supported by over 6,000 expressions of interest from parents in Cork, Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow, and are for schools in:
Speaking about this, CEO Paul Rowe said: 'We are delighted with the growing demand for our new model of second-level school. Applications for enrolment in the three new schools we are opening in Dublin and Drogheda in 2014 are already strong, and now thousands more parents have expressed their interest in these proposed new schools for 2015 and 2016'.
Parent and Chair of the North Wicklow Action Group, Jessica Bird, said: 'Parents in North Wicklow are excited at the prospect of an Educate Together second-level school for the area. We want our children to experience this modern and innovative type of education because it will equip them with the skills and attitudes they need in today's changing world'.
Applications submitted will be assessed by the Department of Education and Skills and the New Schools Advisory Group, who will make recommendations to the Minister for Education and Skills. The Minister will then select the patrons for each of the planned new schools.
