The weekend of St. Patrick’s Day was a busy one for Midleton Educate Together National School. Tesco in Midleton kindly allowed the school to fundraise on Saturday 16th March by bag-packing at their check-outs. We had a busy rota of parents and guardians to help out on the day. Even our principal, Rhodri, proved to be a dab hand at bag-packing! The school was very generously supported by the Midleton community and we fundraised over €1,400.
Sunday, 17th March, was a chilly day in Midleton but thankfully it stayed dry for the town’s St. Patrick’s Day parade. A committee made up of teachers and parents had worked very hard over the preceding weeks to prepare a fantastic display to represent the school in the parade. The theme of this year’s Midleton parade was The Story of Ireland in keeping with The Year of the Gathering. Our school prepared models to represent the story of the Salmon of Knowledge â a very fitting theme. While fourth class worked with their teacher to create models of a young Fionn Mac Cumhaill and the teacher Finn Eces, the rest of the committee modelled an impressive Salmon of Knowledge from recycled materials. The school community came out in force to represent the school and the display was highly commended by the town’s St Patrick’s Day judging committee.
