The Minister for Education and Skills recently announced that capital funding was being made available to provide a primary schools minor works grant of €28 million for the current school year. This will come as great news for many schools as it was rumoured that the grant would not be paid this year. The money will be paid to schools over the coming days.
However, the DES have advised that given the significant restraints on capital funding and the need to prioritise meeting the need for additional school places, it is unlikely that there will be funding available for a minor works grant in the coming years. Schools are advised to take this into consideration when prioritising spending from this years grant. Read the DES Press release on this topic.
