Educate Together and Dublin and Dún Laoghaire ETB have started the design and planning work for the building of the new Community College in Clonburris, South Lucan, Co. Dublin. The new Community College will open in September 2014 and this will provide a further 1,000 post-primary school places for the greater Lucan area. Dublin and Dún Laoghaire ETB is the patron of the new school in partnership with Educate Together.
Funded by the Department of Education and Skills, the new multidenominational and co-educational school will cater for the entire community of South Lucan and for all of the existing primary schools in the area. The design team has now been appointed, led by Architects McCullough Mulvin. Enrolments are scheduled to begin in 2013.
Dublin and Dún Laoghaire ETB and Educate Together have worked together to develop the management structure of the new school. Clonburris Community College will be among the most modern schools in the country and will have a community-based, inclusive ethos together with the highest educational standards. It will foster and support the formation of personal and academic skills which will enable young people to meet their full potential in modern life and society.
As well as the full Leaving Certificate programme, the school will also provide the new Junior Cycle programme which is being developed by the NCCA for implementation in 2014. The latest teaching, learning and assessment strategies will ensure a focus on critical thinking, communication and creativity. Clonburris Community College will also offer an excellent sports curriculum and many other extra-curricular activities.

Following on from a successful consultation meeting with parents earlier last year, Dublin and Dún Laoghaire ETB and Educate Together will be engaging further with the local community as plans for the new school are developed. An important step will be the appointment of an Interim Board of Management for the school. It is hoped that this Board will be put in place at the beginning of the next school year.
The Community College in Clonburris will be a multi-denominational and co-educational school with capacity for 1,000 students. It will be entirely inclusive and respectful of all backgrounds. With a population of 250,000, South Dublin has a high proportion of young people with 38% of the population under the age of 25. This new Community College will be among the most modern schools in the country, providing a broad range of high quality education services to the highly populated Lucan area.
