The parents and management of Kildare Town’s new Educate Together National School will be celebrating today as work starts on their new building. Enrolment is now underway in the school which is firmly on track to open its doors in September.
Some of the management committee will be on hand for the occasion with a commencement ceremony, marking the beginning of the renovation works today.
Principal Gerry Breslin said:
“I am really excited that the building work is starting on what will be a great temporary home for the school. We are especially delighted with the plans agreed by ourselves and the VEC which I think will bring out the very best in our location here. I know that the parents and children are very excited about the project and we all look forward to seeing the results.
The school is set to have five refurbished classrooms, staff room and office facilities. The grounds are also set to recieve a facelift with facilities for football, a new basketball court and other sporting activities. There are also some very interesting plans for the other outdoor areas of the extensive site.
Chair of the School start-up commitee Judith O’Connor said:
I was really delighted when I heard we were getting this beautiful site for the school. Apart from, all the sporting facilities, we also have alot of mature trees and green areas on the grounds which will house our natural sensory garden. There are also plans to start a school vegetable garden for the budding horticulturalists of the school.
The new junior infant children have already enjoyed a get-together day where they took part in activities like football, face-painting, colouring and generally playing games. A lot of fun was had by all the children involved.
The school is still enrolling children in their Junior Infant class.
