Newtownwhite Educate Together National School in Ballysokerry, Ballina, Co. Mayo will open its doors for the first time in September 2014. Catherine Boland has been appointed as the new principal. Catherine is a graduate of University College Cork where she obtained a B.A. in Gaeilge and Sociology. She subsequently graduated from Coláiste Mhuire, Marino and Trinity College Dublin with a Higher Diploma in Primary Education.
Catherine has recently completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Special Educational Needs in St Angela’s College, Sligo. She has over ten years’ experience teaching all class levels and has a particular interest in sport, Gaelic games and science. She joins Newtownwhite Educate Together N.S. from Ballinakill N.S. in Co. Laois and previously taught in Gaelscoil Tiobraid Árann and Gaelscoil Bheanntraí. She has been involved in many initiatives in the school; Cumann na mBunscol Laoise, Green Schools and Discovery Primary Science and Maths Awards.
Catherine is looking forward to her role as Principal of the new school and hopes to use her experience effectively to create a happy, secure and positive environment for all. Her vision is that the children of Newtownwhite E.T.N.S. will be excited by their learning, with their talents developed and motivated to become lifelong learners.
