Educate Together welcomes the progress reported this week that the pay and conditions of school secretaries are to be improved. Educate Together also welcomes the news that a similar arrangement is to be put in place for school caretakers.
Ireland’s equality-based school patron has previously expressed concern over the pay injustice facing many of the country’s grant-funded school secretaries and caretakers.
Caretakers and school secretaries are valued and integral members of any Educate Together school community. Now more than ever, these colleagues are supporting increasingly overburdened school leaders in providing happy and safe learning environments for the children and young people in schools.
It has been reported that the arrangements for transferring staff onto pay new scales are to be finalised through discussions in the coming weeks. Educate Together hopes that the details can be agreed and changes implemented as quickly as possible so that these highly valued colleagues can be properly rewarded for their important work.
